Planning to visit the Bakery?
Know before you go:
| Check our hours (look here)... | |
| Definitely check our opening times as they variy seasonally. They are also recorded on our answering machine...603-464-5079. |
|
| Earlier is not always better... | |
| Getting here _early_ is not usually the best oportunity for the best selection. Pastries and pretzels are ready when we open (or therabouts) but breads are later--around noontime on weekdays and 11:30 on Saturdays (we're getting older and starting later.....) | |
| We have freshly baked items every day... | |
| Please don't insult us by asking if the items are "fresh from today".
We don't know what you are used to getting from other bakeries, but if a bread was left open on our rack from yesterday, it would be a rock. While we do specialize in crusty breads (and sometimes double crusted breads), rocks are not in our product line!! If a bread or other item is day-old it will be packaged and marked as such (and reduced in price!). And surprise! Some breads are actually better after they age 2-3 days -- such as Vollkornbrot. |
|
| Payment... | |
| Sorry, but we don't take credit or debit cards. Cash or checks (with proper ID) required. | |
| Our Pretzels don't come with mustard... | |
| Mustard for your pretzels? That's something we don't talk about here. The Germans eat pretzels with unsalted butter which really enhances the taste. John has gone public on TV saying that he "can hear the pretzel screaming from a block away" when it gets doused with mustard. Trust us, mustard is a taste destroyer when it comes to freshly baked pretzels. Try the German way, we think you'll like it! |
|
| When you want something special or have a large order... | |
| When you want something unique (pastries, cakes, etc.) or dozens of items for a big occasion, _please_ call us and discuss the options in advance. We need a lot of notice for some things (and not so much for others). |
|
| Our selection... | |
| The items listed on this website are just a sampling of our products. Our complete offering is much more extensive. For a complete brochure and list of products, please give us a call and we will send it out. Also, some of the items listed are mentioned just to show that we can make them, but we do not necessarily make them all the time. So the best is to call before you come to see if we have what you want, just in case. . | |
| Eating in... | |
| We do serve lunches January through May (Bratwurst on Wednesdays and homemade German soups Thursdays through Saturdays). For the rest of the year, ask for our "make your own" sandwich option (Brotzeit selbstgemacht). With "make your own", you purchase the Wurst and/or cheese, and the rolls or bread, and for a small price we supply plates, knives, cutting board, mustard etc. If some is left, we pack it up for you to take home. Some think this is weird, but most just have fun with it. It's like being home in Germany. The cold cut pieces are usually 12 oz., the liverwursts 8oz. This lunch option is possible any day of the year we are open except Tuesdays. Of course, coffee, tea and pastries can be enjoyed in the bakery at any time. | |
